AWJ Andy Whyte Journal
Privacy

Privacy & cookies.

Plain English. The short version: AWJ collects the minimum needed to know which essays land. No ads, no data sold to anyone, no creepy stuff.

What I collect

Two analytics tools run on this site:

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics — privacy-first, cookieless. Counts pageviews and referrers in aggregate. No cookies, no fingerprinting, no personal data leaves your browser.
  • Google Analytics 4 — only if you click Accept on the cookie banner. Used to understand which essays are read, how far through, and which subscribe forms convert. Your IP is anonymised before storage. If you click Decline (or ignore the banner), GA runs in cookieless mode — no cookies set, only aggregate signals retained.

Newsletter (Beehiiv)

When you subscribe to the journal, your email is sent to Beehiiv, which delivers the weekly entry. You can unsubscribe with one click from any email. Beehiiv handles the data per their own privacy policy.

Contact form

Messages sent via the contact form go to my inbox via Resend. I'll only use what you send me to reply.

Cookies in detail

  • Strictly necessary: none beyond the consent choice itself (stored in browser localStorage, not a cookie).
  • Analytics (only after Accept): Google Analytics sets _ga, _ga_*. Used for visit attribution and returning-user identification. Retention: 14 months.
  • Marketing / ads: none. AWJ doesn't run ads.

Your choices

  • Click Decline on the cookie banner — no cookies set.
  • Use Google's opt-out browser add-on for site-wide opt-out across the web.
  • Email [email protected] to request access, correction, or deletion of any personal data I hold (mainly your subscriber email, if applicable).

UK GDPR + PECR

AWJ is operated from the United Kingdom. The lawful basis for processing subscriber emails is your consent (you opted in). The lawful basis for analytics with your consent is also consent; in cookieless mode, it's legitimate interest (aggregate site improvement, no personal data stored). You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking Decline or clearing your browser's localStorage for andywhyte.com.
