MEDDPICC
MEDDPICC is the eight-letter version of MEDDIC, adding Paper Process and Competition: a common language for qualification, methodology and value selling that follows a deal all the way to signature.
MEDDPICC is the full version. Metrics, Economic Buyer, Decision Criteria, Decision Process, Paper Process, Implicate the Pain, Champion, Competition. The P is the one people notice, and it is there because the gap between a verbal yes and a signed contract is where quarters go to die. Legal, procurement, security and signature authority were always part of the deal. MEDDPICC made them part of the qualification.
The question MEDDPICC answers is bigger than the other two: is this deal real, can it actually close, by when, and what would stop it?
The mistake is treating it as a form. I have seen CRMs with eight mandatory MEDDPICC fields and a forecast that was still fiction, because the fields were filled in by the seller on a Friday afternoon from memory and nobody ever inspected them. The letters are questions, and the answers have to come from the customer. If the customer has not said it, you do not know it. You are guessing, and guessing is not qualification.
How I use it. MEDDPICC is what I teach, and it is the common language the MEDDICC Masterclass has taken more than 35,000 graduates through. I use it in two directions. Downwards, into a deal: where are we strong, where are we weak, and what is the next action that changes a weak letter? Upwards, into a forecast: a deal with no Economic Buyer, no Metrics and no Paper Process mapped does not go in commit, whatever the rep’s gut says. And one rule above all. People sometimes add a third C for Compelling Event. Do not. Implicated Pain, agreed Metrics and a real Champion produce the urgency. Bolting on a letter does not.
